From Wheelchair-Bound to Walking Free: A SOMA Breath Journey of Healing

In 2015, Rhian Louis Thomas’s life took a dramatic turn. As a former carer, she found herself on the other side of the healthcare equation, diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2016. What followed was a cascade of health challenges that would test her resilience and ultimately lead her to an extraordinary path of healing.

The Descent

“I was completely bed-bound,” Rhian recalls. Her condition had deteriorated to the point where she required 36 different medications daily, including antidepressants and two types of morphine. Her body was betraying her in ways she never imagined possible—she had lost the use of her legs, gained four and a half stone in weight, and was experiencing severe digestive issues that led to her vomiting her own feces. A wheelchair was on its way, and it seemed her independence was slipping away permanently.

A Divine Intervention

Late in 2019, everything changed. Following what Rhian describes as a “profound near-death experience,” she received what she felt was a universal message—she needed to learn how to heal herself. This revelation coincided with a seemingly random YouTube recommendation that would alter the course of her life: a SOMA Breath Masterclass on rewiring the nervous system.

The Transformation Begins

Despite never having practiced breathwork before, Rhian immersed herself in the SOMA Breath techniques, particularly the LIMITLESS routine. The results were remarkable:

  • Within weeks, her body began a powerful detoxification process, sweating out what she describes as “the smell of death” for two solid weeks
  • Her chronic constipation began to resolve
  • Within three months, she had halved her medication intake
  • By May 2020, a month ahead of her target, she was completely medication-free
  • Her menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding) regulated
  • Her fibromyalgia symptoms significantly decreased
  • She lost three and a half stone in the first year

Beyond Physical Healing

The most profound moment came when her long-awaited wheelchair finally arrived—she no longer needed it. Simple tasks that had become impossible, like tying her shoelaces or walking her dog, were once again part of her daily life. But this time, she approached them with a new level of awareness and gratitude.

“I was able to reset my whole nervous system through learning how to breathe properly,” Rhian explains. “Learning to breathe raised my vibration, which attracted so many wonderful, amazing, beautiful people into my life from all over the world.”

A New Chapter

Today, Rhian’s transformation continues. She has lost a total of five stone and has found her calling in helping others through their healing journeys. Her story has become a beacon of hope, featured on the SOMA website alongside other testimonials of those who have healed from fibromyalgia through breathwork.

“I will always be eternally grateful for these awesome tools,” she shares. “Learning the power of the breath and letting go of negative attachments and limiting beliefs—these two mechanisms are powerful.”

From Patient to Practitioner

Rhian’s journey has come full circle. From someone who needed constant care, she is now pursuing certification as a breathwork instructor, ready to guide others on their healing journeys. Her story stands as a testament to the transformative power of breath and the body’s innate ability to heal when given the right tools.

This remarkable journey of healing through SOMA Breath demonstrates that even in our darkest moments, transformation is possible. Rhian’s story reminds us that sometimes, the most powerful medicine is the breath we take for granted every day.
