Freedom – SOMA Breath

What Freedom really means

As this year's American independence day is during one of the most turbulent times in history, I wanted to give a worthwhile message that applies today. A message that is based on the true meaning of the most important day of celebration in the United States.

I began to research the history of Independence day and I found as with many things in history there were 20+ different versions of the same story. So I thought perhaps I would just give my own interpretation.

So what was the real reason for the declaration of independence in 1776? 

In a nutshell the United States was formed from the rebellion of colonial settlers who were against the heavy taxation from the British who needed to raise income as they had been hit financially from the cost of war.

For a group of people to want to break away from the current power structure and risk war and conflict there must be a very strong desire to do so.

The strong desire to break away from the British empire is not unique to just the USA. 

In fact a total of 65 countries have claimed their independence from the imperial rule of the British.

It seems most people and nations prefer to be able to make their own laws and govern themselves aka Freedom.

But has the declaration of independence really created more freedom in the world or have we just ended up back to the exact same place? 

If you read a landmark book called Escaping Freedom by the highly respected author Erich Fromm, perhaps freedom is not something most people really want after all?

It could also explain why history seems to keep on repeating itself.

With freedom comes great responsibility. We must accept the consequences of our choices and actions. We must respect and protect each other's freedom. However not everyone will always respect that responsibility by ‘free will' alone.

This book explains that if humanity cannot live with the dangers and responsibilities inherent in freedom, it will probably turn to authoritarianism, as history already shows us with the rise of Hitler, communism and imperialism. 

During these dark moments in history it was as if humans had a willingness to submit to totalitarian rule, however gruesome it may end up.

Humanity has now reached a tipping point during this ongoing crisis…

When I was working as a pharmacist I had a strong desire to break away from the corporate system I was working in as I did not share the same beliefs. Even though I was free to have my beliefs, my views led me to feeling very alienated.

Eric Fromm states that If the rise of democracy set some people free, at the same time it gave birth to a society in which the individual feels alienated and dehumanized. 

In order to deal with the feelings of loneliness and the fear of feeling out (F.O.F.O) I was fortunate to have access to the internet where  I was able to, as Terence Mckenna famously instructed ‘find the others' who felt the same way as me.

I found others who shared the same values – we can heal ourselves, we can create businesses that solve real world problems, we can work from anywhere and live a life of passion, and we can do all this while still being kind, compassionate and respectful of others who may not agree with the same point of view.

However to do all this I first had to be able to break free from my  ‘safe' ‘secure' profession and create an income stream so that I could support myself.

This is not an easy task and the pursuit of this type of freedom became a test of my determination and a test of my character too! 

It's a fast track to discovering who you really are and what it takes to be truly free!

I believe with our SOMA Breath instructor training I have created a duplicatable model, based on my own personal success that can allow someone to free themselves from sickness, poverty and stress, as well as by helping others do the same.
