How To Step Up Your Meditation
Practice For Better Results

A recent study has found that Breathwork meditation may be more effective than traditional meditation for improving mood and reducing anxiety.

The study, which was published in the journal Cell Reports Medicine in March 2023, involved 114 participants who were randomly assigned to practice either Breathwork, mindfulness meditation, or a control activity.
The Breathwork group practiced a technique called cyclic sighing, which involveslonger exhales than inhales.

The mindfulness meditation group practiced a technique called focused attention meditation, which involves focusing on the breath or another object of attention (a conventional form of mindfulness meditation).

The control group did not engage in any meditation practice. They were asked to continue with their usual activities during the study period.
After 28 days, participants in the Breathwork group reported having more positive feelings and fewer negative ones compared with before they began their practice.

They also reported reduced feelings of anxiety.

Participants in the mindfulness meditation group also reported improved mood and reduced anxiety, but theeffects were not as strong as in the Breathwork group. The researchers believe that the calming effects of Breathwork may be due to the fact that it activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's rest-and-digest response.

When the parasympathetic nervous system is activated, heart rate and breathing slow down, blood pressure decreases, and muscle tension relaxes.

What I love about this study is that it supports what I've been looking into for the past 10 years.
